The NCPE 2014 could be seen as a much ‘greener’ document, with the KS4 section taking up no more than half a side of A4 paper, a huge contrast to its predecessor NCPE 2007. A wider opportunity is given for teachers to establish their own goals, with trust upon them to deliver the best curriculum possible. The NCPE 2014 focuses on minimal content, although what is mentioned is competitive sports, in what I feel is an attempt to further the future of our country in the sporting world.  Encouraging pupils to participate in "complex and demanding physical activities" (NCPE,2014).  Pupils are now expected to develop skills through outdoor adventurous activities (OAA), whilst continuously evaluating their own performances and endeavouring to participate in competitive sports outside of the school setting (NCPE, 2014).

NCPE 2014

The changes to inspire and improve the youth of today's physical capabilities has to be seen as a possitive change, although it may take a number of years to establish itself, as introducing new expectations in KS4 will be difficult for pupils to achieve if they have been educated through the previous curriculum and how "low starting points" (OfSTED, 2013). Will the Government allow time for the curriculum to flurish, or will it be replaced in order to adhere to disbelievers?

This is all well and good, BUT....

Sue Wilkinson reporting on the 2014 NCPE showing her huge support for the document and what she hopes it will bring to PE lessons.  She also feels that the government has re-professionalised PE teachers which was something noted in the White Paper (2010).

"A leap forward..."

2014 NCPE makes way for more pupils to strive to be the best they can be, this clip shows what its like for pupils to compete a a high level through Sainsbury's 'School Games'.
